iPhone apps I use & love

I was helping a friend get set up on his iPhone, and he wanted some tips on apps that are worth getting. Rather than stick it in an email, here it is: what I use on a regular basis and have survived the test of time.

  • Twitterrific – Tweetie is also good, but Twitterrific remembers your timeline between launches, where as Tweetie starts up blank.
  • Byline – Google Reader, but supports offline usage, perfect for tube journeys.
  • Mobile Fotos – For uploading to Flickr. The only app that manages to upload where the photo was originally taken, not where you’re currently uploading from.
  • Instapaper Pro – get the Pro version, not because of the features, but because Instapaper is awesome and worth supporting.
  • Drop7 – this might be one of the greatest games ever made.
  • Weather Pro – detailed weather reports, useful for city cycling.
  • Dopplr – for sharing places worth visiting with my friends and discovering good stuff nearby. (Yes, I made it.)
  • National Rail – expensive, but worth it if you find yourself dashing around the UK train network. Some really nice touches.
